Background

DCAF’s Public-Private Partnerships Division was created in January 2013 to lead the Centre’s innovative work supporting public-private partnerships in the fields of private security governance, business and security sector reform and cyber governance. A major part of the Division work focuses on promoting regulation of the private security industry, including through supporting Switzerland and the ICRC in the development and implementation of the Montreux Document. Furthermore, DCAF has taken a leading role in the development of the International Code of Conduct for Private Security Service Providers and is now supporting its implementation. The organisation also supports the implementation of the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights, aiming to support extractive companies in managing their security in a way which respects human rights and international humanitarian law (see for instance http://www.securityhumanrightshub.org).

The opportunity

In 2015, communication and public outreach will be a core priority of the Public-Private Partnerships Division and several activities are planned, including the development and launch of a multi-lingual online platform, the development of a social media strategy and the elaboration of specific outreach materials.
